Joel’s Entry
This is Joel’s entry to the t-shirt competition. We cant believe how much effort he put in!
As they were travelling to the planet Neptune (as all good musicians do), the band (now known as “All Mankind”) happened upon a most disagreeable asteroid. Richard, the most excelled singer protagonist, laid upon the others in the bodacious crew to make a saintly entrance upon that asteroid, setting the space shuttle to descend into its rocky sphere. As the rest of the band are easily persuaded by this young charismatic microphone-kisser, they quickly agreed that this was the best possible course of action that could generate possible interest for their grey-rimmed future.
The neon lights of the space shuttle flashed crazily like a small dog jumping around for attention. The stars waited in eager anticipation, seeking, yearning to see what would happen next as the ship made its prodigious entrance onto the asteroid. Slowly, but rhythmically, the space shuttle landed with rocks tumbling all round. The door of the shuttle fell to the surface and coincidentally, the asteroid was so large that it had a small atmosphere similar to earths, and thus as the quartet descended onto the rocky plains they were luckily able to breathe - as they had not thought to mount on space suites prior to exiting their sci-fi vehicle.
To the band’s complete astonishment, as the blue-glimmer of the asteroids haze began to dissipate, out on the asteroid-horizon they saw four figures on what looked like a platform. They began to make their way towards the strangers.
Notes of a pitch the height of Everest rang through the air, cracking like thunder and moving in the air like lightning. The band made its way to the mysterious “others” and found that the closer they got the more they rose in height and stature; to the extent that when they finally made it to the platform on which the figures stood it was as if they were in but a valley next to a large, towering Mountain.
The four strangers had the look of men but their faces were completely enshrouded in a blackness that made them look like a void. Dorny shouted, “HELLO!” There was no immediate reply. He shouted again, this time assisted by his companions. After a few moments, the mysterious four turned their faces towards the band and in synchrony moved their arms in a single motion, pointing from the ground to the sky. Immediately the asteroid sky-rocketed (if such a term could apply) increasing in speed ten-fold, twenty-fold, till eventually they were so fast that description would be of little value. The void-faced men repeated the motion and suddenly the band, who were tumbling around in their small valley, were lifted up, up and up till they were on level with the strangers. And before they knew it, the asteroid had plummeted into the sun.
Seconds passed. Minutes. What seemed like years. “Am I dead?” said one voice,
“Am I?” replied another. Then begun what sounded like a rushing wind and before they knew it they could see everything - everything! The golden sun sat in ambience, the worlds that orbited around looked like pebbles below the surface of the ocean. All was warm and golden. ANd there, in the molten pits of the sun, though the band had hardly collected themselves the four strangers from before called out each of their names:
“Richard,” called one.
“Dave,” called another.
“Gavin.”
“Dave.” The band collected themselves and looked over at the strangers, their faces no longer the darkest black but the reddest crimson, their hands laced with gold and silver feathers.
“Who are you?” asked Gavin.
“We are the angels of the Most High, who rules from the centre of the golden sphere, whose arm reaches to the edge of the universe and beyond, who moves in the lives of men and makes them as He so wishes.”
“Why are we here?” Asked Dorny.
“Because you are chosen.”
“Chosen for what?” Asked Richard, and as he spoke they heard the voice that sounded like rushing water, turning around there walked among them one who looked like a Son of man, who wrapped Himself in lightning and righteousness.
“For All Mankind” said He, as the band fell on their knees. Then with majesty that the Earth has rarely known he told them, “Rise. Turn and behold.” And the band rose, trembled and turned. The four angels had disappeared and in their place Richard, Dorny, Gavin and Dave saw the future that was to be theirs. There before them they saw an endless mass, men too many to be counted. And the words had new meaning as each member was brought to tears, “All Mankind.”
The King of Glory spoke, “Now you see my heart.” And suddenly they were gone, the asteroid moved through the sun but they each carried a piece of that golden orb with them….in a guitar, in a voice, in drummer’s heart beat. And they knew that to them was bequeathed that title and calling, “All Mankind.”
